Why you need to use your heart in videos

Why you need to use your heart in videos

Thanks for tagging along with me these past few weeks as I shared my favorite sessions from a sold out marketing conference in Boston that I attended.

Whenever I see heart in the title of a session, I know this will be a knock out session. That is why I picked this session: The Heart Connection: A Simple Formula for Building Trust Through Video by Tony Grau to share with you.

As a solopreneur, I don’t have no one to share these sessions with other than you (you are my team), so you can catch up with the other sessions at the bottom of this post. I appreciate you for being here to learn with me. When I finished watching this replay of this session with my kids, I needed them to hand me a tissue.

I had heard about this presenter crying during his session from the other attendees but I didn’t know I would too. He shares the story of how he had a heart attack while vacationing with his family in the Netherlands throughout his presentation. You will know as you keep reading why he talks about this event with his audience.

His formula:

Strategy + People + Emotion = video success

Questions for your Strategy

Answer these questions:

What’s the Audience, goal, measure, what’s the story, how will you promote the video?

Choosing the Right People

Let’s dissect the people aspect, which includes:

Who is someone that makes you happy to see them at your company? You should highlight them in your videos. It helps build rapport with your audiences because it will be easier since their attitude and willingness will help the video better.

Target the Emotions

Can you make your people cry or laugh intentionally on your videos? The shortcut to emotion is using storytelling.

That formula that I shared above from him can also be used for success in video, writing, email, podcast, and in webinars.

He finishes his session by sharing this link where you can find an example of a bad “corporate” video but most importantly a video (from American Heart Association) that he viewed eight months earlier that shows the signs of a heart attack (using Elizabeth Banks as an actress). Watching that video saved his life and helped him recognize the warning signs that saved his life while vacationing with his family in Europe.

I usually don’t share the links that presenters share on here (out of respect and courtesy) but this could save your life too, please click here to see it (at the very bottom of this page).

He also jokes while crying in his presentation about how he made his wife take pictures of the ambulance coming to rescue him but no video and he is the video guy! His wife later took a video of his daughter riding shot gun in the Dutch ambulance.

His session taught me so much about more heart into my videos. That video that he shared with us about heart attacks does all the steps in his formula (Strategy, People, Emotion).
