How to check on competitors content but also find out what is your OWN best content.

How to check on competitors content but also find out what is your OWN best content.

I haven’t attended a massive marketing conference in over 10 years, there were over 600 attendees. I recently came back from Marketing Prof’s B2B Forum and shared quick things that I learned in a recent blog post.

I couldn’t attend all the live sessions but I’m catching up with the replays and here is what I took from one of the sessions called The Social Spy Game: Unveil the Secrets of Your Competitors’ Organic Tactics. It was presented by Dorien Morin-van Dam. Side note, she was one of the folks that I bonded with the most so I’m excited to share with you what I learned from her session:

Spy on competitors

SocialInsider monitors your competitors but also check out what has worked best for your content. I’m going to do this with my clients at our next meeting. Sociainsider has me checking out what is my best of the best based on:

  • Content
  • Engagement
  • Reach
  • Impressions
  • Audience
  • Content Pillars
  • Posts
  • Reels
  • Compare (my favorite because I benchmark my stats with competitors)
  • Industry (how my account compared to others in the “industry”)

“Different is better than better” quoted by Sally Hogshead. Quoted a couple times throughout Dorien’s workshop.

Social Listening to your Competitors

Dorien mentioned signing up for your competitor’s email (by using fake email) to check on their content, headlines, what are they offering or promoting? I have personally done this myself, but I rarely read at the emails. Another thing to look for would be how often are they sending this email to their customers?

Other tools she mentioned throughout her presentation that I won’t get into much detail are:

I can’t get enough of the SocialInsider tool, I checked on my content and the one that got the most engagement (which is what I track) was when I showed my drastic hair color change.

What tools sounds like something you want to dive into? I am keep playing with the SocialInsider tool.
