I spoke at a local Association of Fundraising Professionals Chapter. Here are the tips I offered to this group of nonprofit organizations and educational institutions:
Facebook 101:
•Have a plan (Who, What, When)
•Set up a Business Page, “Like” Page not Friend Page
•Fill in About Section completely
•Add pictures or albums
•Use Visuals (http://www.picmonkey.com/ – Free)
•Start adding “likes” of businesses: media, sponsors, HQ, corps to ENGAGE
•Don’t close on the first move (to ask for donation/money immediately)
•Be consistent – have a plan! Don’t just post today and not later.
•Don’t post all at once (status, events, pictures) show up on the newsfeed immediately
•Poll Questions, Tagged photos, Events ranked higher on NewsFeed

We also spoke about the ROI of Social Media for their accountant/Board of Directors, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and the importance of having a Mobile-Friendly Website. The last 15 minutes was showing the audience how to engage and the importance of these techniques for obtaining new sponsors/volunteers and keeping them informed.
I offered suggested reading on Millennials (75% of them have donated to a charity in 2012) and HubSpot (usually Free) Marketing Resources/Tools:
