How can Latino small business owners use Instagram and artificial intelligence to grow their businesses? By understanding their audience, creating culturally relevant content, and using AI to develop marketing strategies that build trust and encourage customers to take action. I had ChatGPT write up a recap for me, highlighting the best tips and prompts here.
In September 2026, I had the opportunity to present at the 9th Pennsylvania Latino Convention in Easton, Pennsylvania, where I led a workshop titled Visible, Trusted & Converting: Social Media and AI Strategies for Latino Small Business Owners.
As a bilingual digital marketing consultant and founder of Beyond Engagement Social Media Solutions, I was excited to share practical strategies that Latino entrepreneurs could put into action without needing a huge marketing budget or spending hours creating content.
After more than 14 years in business, one thing I continue to emphasize is that visibility is wonderful, but visibility without intentionality doesn’t necessarily grow your business.
Social Media Marketing Starts With Knowing Your Audience
One of the biggest takeaways from my presentation was the importance of understanding who you’re trying to reach before deciding what to post.
For Latino business owners, that might mean reaching first-generation immigrants, bilingual professionals, second-generation Latinos, or customers who simply appreciate the products, services, and cultural experiences your business provides.
And here’s something worth remembering: Just because your audience identifies as Hispanic or Latino doesn’t mean everyone consumes content the same way.
Some prefer English. Others prefer Spanish. And some love a little Spanglish!
Your marketing should reflect the preferences of your customers, not assumptions about them.

Instagram Is More Than Pretty Pictures
During the Instagram portion of my workshop, we discussed how small business owners can use the platform to build relationships, showcase their expertise, and encourage potential customers to take the next step.
Instagram gives businesses opportunities to share customer experiences, demonstrate products, introduce the people behind the brand, and tell stories that help audiences feel connected.
But before you create another Reel or spend 30 minutes deciding on a caption, ask yourself:
Who am I trying to reach, what do I want them to know, and what action do I want them to take?
Those three questions can make your content much more intentional.
How AI Can Help Latino Entrepreneurs Market Smarter
Artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT can be incredibly helpful for small business owners who wear multiple hats.
You don’t need to be an AI expert to start using them. You need to know how to ask better questions.
AI can help brainstorm content ideas, develop captions, identify potential audience needs, and create a consistent marketing plan. But it shouldn’t replace your personality, cultural understanding, or relationships with customers.
My advice? Let AI help you with the heavy lifting, but make sure your voice and expertise remain front and center.
3 AI Prompts to Improve Your Instagram Marketing
At the end of the Instagram portion of my presentation, I shared practical AI prompting strategies that entrepreneurs could customize for their businesses.
Here are three prompts you can copy into ChatGPT or another AI assistant to get started.
AI Prompt #1: Understand Your Hispanic and Latino Audience
“I’m a small business owner in [city, state] offering [products or services]. My target customers include [describe your audience]. Help me identify three potential Hispanic or Latino customer segments in my local market. Explain their possible needs, cultural considerations, language preferences, and what types of Instagram content might resonate with each group. Avoid stereotypes, distinguish assumptions from verified insights, and recommend ways I can validate these ideas with real customers.”
Why this matters: Understanding your audience helps you create content that feels relevant rather than generic.

AI Prompt #2: Should I Post in English, Spanish, or Spanglish?
“Act as a bilingual digital marketing strategist. My business is [business name], located in [city], and I want to reach [target audience]. Help me decide whether my Instagram content should be in English, Spanish, Spanglish, or a combination. Explain the advantages of each approach, suggest a practical strategy for testing language preferences, and write three versions of an Instagram caption promoting [product or service]. Keep the messaging culturally authentic, conversational, and focused on building trust.”
Why this matters: Language can help create connections, but the right approach depends on your customers and their preferences.

AI Prompt #3: Create 30 Days of Instagram Content That Builds Trust
“Act as an Instagram marketing strategist for a Latino-owned small business. My business is [business name], located in [city], and I sell [products or services] to [target audience]. Create a realistic 30-day Instagram content plan focused on visibility, trust, and generating inquiries or sales. Include Reels, carousels, Stories, customer testimonials, and behind-the-scenes content. Suggest culturally relevant ideas when appropriate, write engaging hooks, and include clear calls to action. Keep the plan manageable for a small business owner with limited time and resources.”
Why this matters: Consistency becomes easier when you have a plan that connects your content to actual business goals.
Remember, these prompts are starting points. Review the responses, add your personal experiences, and adjust the recommendations to reflect your customers and brand.
The Biggest Takeaway: Relationships Still Matter
Technology will continue to evolve. Social media platforms will change. And artificial intelligence will become an even bigger part of how we market our businesses.
But one thing hasn’t changed throughout my 14-plus years as a business owner: People want to do business with people they know, like, and trust.
Whether you’re a Latino entrepreneur in Pennsylvania, a small business owner in the Lehigh Valley, or a corporate professional building your personal brand, your online presence should help people understand who you are, what you offer, and why they should connect with you.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to have shared these strategies at the Pennsylvania Latino Convention and to contribute to conversations about entrepreneurship, economic development, and the future of digital marketing in our communities.
