Yikes! 15 minutes to speak about Social Media and here’s what I said!

I was approached to speak for 15 minutes to a LIVE audience about Social Media at the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce! This audience who I didn’t know who it was until I arrived included professionals in the finance, medical, and architecture industry. Here is the quick list of items that I covered:

Quick stats on LinkedIn

Thanks to Justin at the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce for taking this picture

722 million LinkedIn Members (in the US). LinkedIn is the most trusted social network in the U.S.

73% of social media users at least somewhat agree that LinkedIn protects their privacy and data. Compare that to just 53% for Facebook. (same source as above)

“LinkedIn makes up more than 50% of all social traffic to B2B websites & blogs”. I am always telling business owners and professionals that when you are googled, your LinkedIn profile is probably the 2nd or 3rd item on Google Listings.

“In fact, buyers are five times more likely to engage with someone who shares mutual connections.”

If you are a big mobile user on LinkedIn, they go to the profile, click “more” near the Connect button and click “personalize invite” to make it fuzzy. Don’t sales pitch. I talked about how I connect with folks at live events after standing in line to grab food and introducing myself and asking what they do.

Your best buddies on LinkedIn are posting updates: pictures, videos, and “Write Article” where you can publish a mini blog article, this is a great way to repurpose your blog posts.

LinkedIn likes when you keep users within their site. Start looking at your evergreen blog posts or blog posts that you can repurpose and reduce the content and add a CTA at the bottom explaining in a paragraph or less about yourself in case it is seen by someone else outside of your audience.

3 out of 4 executives watch work-related videos every week (Forbes)

More than 50% of customers want to see videos from brands (HubSpot)

59% prefer to watch a video on a topic rather than reading about it (Forbes)

Super quick stats on Instagram

This is probably my favorite picture because you can see the audience getting a kick out of my talking points (Photo by Justin at the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce)

Instagram has over 1 billion monthly active users (MAUs).

Instagram has 500 million daily active users (DAUs).

Instagram has 58 times more engagement per follower than Facebook.Because 500 million people are active on Instagram daily, and 79% of them search the social media platform for a product or service

I placed emphasis on why being consistent on Stories matters, using Location (nearby town or city along with state for visibility), and why Hashtags are super important to Instagram for Businesses.

I am still trying to catch my breath from squeezing this in “15 minutes.”

I love walking into a room and finding out who is inside and customizing my presentations on the fly for audiences.
